From the Front:Sergt. Frank Moore, from Broome, writes from France (Sept. 8): ‘I have been transferred to Capt. Billy Ward’s battalion, now the 23rd, as Signal Seargeant. The other night Ward and I visited the 28th and saw ‘Black Jack ‘ and young Donaldson. We had plenty ot champagne and big feeds. Poor old ‘ Black ‘ is fed up [he was killed eight days later. — Ed.], and would have kept buying all night it’ we’d let him. Eric Walker is in the same battalion. Charlie Neil son is in our battalion. I wish they’d have a drought in France ; the rain is murder.’North West Echo, 1st December 1917
