Other Information Born in Broome, Frederick’s father was Herbert Thomas, a police constable that planted a boab tree outside the police station to honour of the birth of his son Charles when he was stationed there in 1894.  Herbert was posted to Broome again in the early 1920s and  died during Broome’s race riot in December 1920.
