About Frank Levy

Frank Levy was born in 1887 in Canonbury, London to Hyman and Clara Levy.

Broome Connection

Frank Levy owned the lugger Victory in 1913 and managed other luggers in partnership with the Blackman brothers.

War Service

Frank enlisted for the AIF in February 1915 and was posted to the 28th Battalion, A Company – a unit that included many other Broome men.

Frank embarked with his unit for the Gallipoli Peninsula aboard the Ivernia from Alexandria in September 1915. He remained in Gallipoli until November 1915 when he was sent to Malta and hospitalised for illness. After the withdrawal from Gallipoli Frank was transferred to the 1st ANZAC Camel Corps and was promoted to Lance Corporal. After two months of training the newly formed camel patrols left their depot at Abassi on the outskirts of Cairo to patrol the Libyan Desert.

Frank remained with the Camel Corps until the Second Battle of Gaza, when he was killed in action.
