About Herbert Fyfe

Herbert was born in Adelaide, to Edward and Rachael Fyfe. The family moved to Western Australia when Bert was young and he attended school in James Street, Perth.

Broome Connection

Herbert was listed as a civil servant in the Electoral Roll from 1914-1917 and a postal assistant from 1915-1917 in the Wise Directory. Herbert was living in Broome when he enlisted and his medical was performed in Broome by Dr. Harada.

War Service

Bert enlisted for the AIF in July 1916 and was assigned to the 11th Battalion, 22nd Reinforcement. The unit embarked per the Argyllshire on the 9th November from Fremantle, and disembarked at Davenport in January 1917.

From there he was taken on strength and posted to the C Company of the 11th Battalion. The 11th was involved in heavy trench warfare throughout France during the war and in November Herbert was wounded in action, and died from wounds on the 11th November 1917.
