He emigrated to Australia as a child with his family who settled in the Araulen area of Victoria. Charles married Isobel in Perth in 1914. Charles listed his occupation as a stockman and farmer.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Broome Connection<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Charles worked in the La Grange area as a stockman from 1912-1916. He enlisted for the AIF while in Broome, his attestation paper was signed by the Mayor of Broome; W. Clarke-Hall and his medical was performed in Broome by Dr. Harada.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">War Service<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Charles enlisted in the AIF in July 1916, and was posted to the 44th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement. He left Fremantle aboard the <em>HMAT Argyllshire<\/em> in November&nbsp; and arrived in Davenport in January 1917.
