Broome Connection<\/h2>\n
Alfred’s older brother Stephen was working as a shell opener around 1913, and Alfred joined him around 1914.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n The brothers Alfred and Stephen enlisted together in May 1915 and were both assigned to the 10th Light Horse, 8th Reinforcement. They embarked from Fremantle aboard the Anchises<\/em> in September 1915 and were taken on strength in Helipolis in February, 1916 then immediately marched out to Serapeum. The unit remained in Palestine, where Alfred was wounded in action by a gun shot wound to the head.
