He was a member of the Broome Comedy Coy and regularly appeared in their performances. Arthur enlisted for the AIF in Broome in 1917; his attestation papers were signed by the Mayor W Clark-Hall and his medical was performed in Broome.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">War Service<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After enlisting in the AIF, Arthur was assigned to the 16th Battalion, 24th Reinforcement which embarked at Fremantle per <em>Miltiades<\/em> on the 29th January 1917. The ship arrived in Devonport in March and the unit immediately marched to Codford, and then proceeded to France in May. At that time, the rest of the 16th Battalion had been advancing on the Hindenburg Line (the German defensive position).
