Cecil applied to enlist when he was in Broome and Dr. Harada passed him for his medical.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">War Service<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Cecil enlisted on the 27th June 1916 and was enrolled in to the 28th Battalion, 18th Reinforcements.&nbsp; He was enlisted as a private but had risen to a Corporal before the unit embarked from Fremantle aboard the HMAT <em>Persic<\/em> on the 29th December 1916. The troops proceeded overseas to France in May 1917, and Cecil was taken on strength in June. He was appointed Lance Corporal in July. He was sent to hospital in August with &#8220;trench fever&#8221; and rejoined his battalion in September.
