He was assigned the 16th Battalion, C Company, and embarked from Melbourne aboard the HMAT<em> Ceramic A40 <\/em>on the 22nd December 1914. The battalion arrived in Egypt in February. The 16th, along with the rest of the 4th Division landed at ANZAC late in the afternoon of 25 April 1915.&nbsp;A week after the landing the 16th was thrown into the attack on Bloody Angle suffering many casualties. Albert was shot in the wrist in June 1915 and was also promoted to Corporal around this time, which was quickly followed up with another promotion to 2nd Lieutenant. He received another more serious gun shot wound in his arm in September 1916.
